We supply the Solinst range of Water Level Meters (WLM). They come in lengths of 30m, 60m, 100m, 150m, 250m and longer. Their tapes or cables are marked every mm. Also two models of Sonic (Sound) Water Level meters, one from Solinst and one from ENO Scientific.

We supply the Solinst Logger 5 range of non-vented and vented Leveloggers. These units can all be pre-programmed to take readings of pressure and temperature (and conductivity in the case of the LTC logger) and to save these readings. The Software for programming is available as a free download from the Solinst website. It is updated regularly, and so is the Firmware that resides on the loggers, so it is recommended that one regularly logs on to their website to check if there are any updates. |
Non-Vented loggers for typical monitoring static water level (SWL) in boreholes.
Vented loggers for monitoring levels in surface water bodies or shallow boreholes (less than 30m)
Monitor the water level in a borehole over a period of time – Solinst non-vented loggers
SOLINST NON-VENTED LEVELOGGERS FOR TYPICAL MONITORING OF STATIC WATER LEVEL (SWL) IN BOREHOLES (BH) – important points:
- Non-vented loggers read and record total pressure, thus water pressure plus barometric pressure.
- Therefore, when monitoring a bh for a long period of time (days/weeks/months), one has to compensate for barometric pressure by deducting it from the total pressure recorded by the Levelogger. This is done by installing a Barologger in the bh above water level to record barometric pressure. Only 1 Barologger is needed for all bh in a 30km radius. The Solinst software can do the compensation by using the data files downloaded from the Levelogger and Barologger.
- Solinst Leveloggers are designed to operate at various depths under water level – 5m, 10m, 20m, 30m, 100m and 200m. This is denoted by M, so a Solinst Logger 5 LT M10 Levelogger is designed for 10m under water level and it can read and record Level and Temperature. A Logger 5 LTC M100 Levelogger is designed for 100m under water level and it can read and record Level, Temperature and Conductivity.
- Accuracy of the level/pressure sensor is ±0.05% of Full Scale (FS) for the Logger 5 units. Thus a M10 unit is accurate to ±5mm, a M30 unit to ±15mm and a M100 unit to ±5cm. It is therefore important to choose the correct depth range unit for your application. A M100 unit can function easily in 30m of water, but won’t be as accurate as a M30 unit.
- Burst pressure of the pressure sensor is 2x over-pressure, so a M10 unit will break if more than 20m under water, a M100 unit will break if more than 200m under water, etc.
LOGGER DEPLOYMENT OPTIONS:
-
- Barologgers and Leveloggers can be suspended from rope or from a Solinst Direct Read Cable (DRC).
- For rope we recommend and supply Kevlar as it does not shrink or expand with temperature or when wet. With this lower cost deployment, there is no contact point at ground level and the logger must be removed from the bh for data download.
- With the DRC deployment there is a contact point on ground level. Thus data can be downloaded and loggers can be re-programmed from the surface without having to extract them from the bh.
SOLINST LOGGER 5 ACCESSORIES FOR PROGRAMMING AND DATA DOWNLOAD
Monitor the water level in a surface body of water or shallow borehole over a period of time
SOLINST VENTED LOGGERS FOR MONITORING LEVELS IN SURFACE WATER BODIES OR SHALLOW BOREHOLES (less than 30m) – important points:
- The Solinst LevelVent 5 is a vented Levelogger – it has a vented cable and therefore automatically compensates for barometric pressure.
- It is ideally suited for recording water levels in surface water bodies such as tanks, dams, reservoirs, streams and also in shallow bh less than 30m deep.
- The LevelVent offers 3 depth ranges – 5m, 10m and 20m (M5, M10 and M20).
- Accuracy of the level/pressure sensor is ±0.05% of Full Scale (FS). Thus a M5 unit is accurate to ±2.5mm, a M100 unit to ±5mm and a M20 unit to ±10mm.
- Burst pressure of the pressure sensor is 2x over-pressure, so a M10 unit will break if more than 20m under water and a M20 unit will break if more than 40m under water, etc.
- The LevelVent is attached to a vented cable of the required length. The other end of the cable is attached to a Wellhead Assembly which then provides a contact point above water where data can be downloaded and/or the logger re-programmed.

We supply a range of bailers and pumps. It is important to know whether there are any hydrocarbons present where samples will be taken as it affects one's choice of bailer or pump. Another important factor for pumps is how far below ground level the water must be pumped from – i.e. what is the required lift or depth to water. The pumps have different strengths and part of their specification is the lift they can deliver.
DISPOSABLE AND STAINLESS STEEL BAILERS. They come in various sizes and some can even be used in very confined spaces. Some disposable bailers have a diameter of 12.5mm for sampling in narrow spaces.

We supply a range of pocket-type meters from Extech. These units are good value for money and simple to operate. They typically read temperature plus one or more water quality parameters.
Drawdown tests can be done with a variety of instruments. These all measure the SWL as it changes. Water flow being pumped out of the borehole must be measured separately by a suitable method such as a flow meter.
EC profiling can be done with the Solinst TLC Meter or the Solinst Levelogger 5 LTC.
